WHy does my firewall program slow my PC to a crawl?

What is a good firewall program that will not slow the computer to a crawl.? So fare all I have tried just is not satisfacory. MaCafee,Zone Alarm

I have to wonder what else is running on your PC, which might be causing your computer to revert to PC infancy Watch for spyware and other TSR's which may be contributing to the problem Run a defrag, and perform the other usual chores necessary to make today's PC's run lean and mean

If you see more than three or four icons in your system tray, next to the clock, consider them red flags.

If nothing seems to work, an external piece of hardware may be necessary to take over the functionality of your firewall.

For about the same price of firewall program, D-Link Systems, among others, will sell you an external firewall that will help divide the tasks of firewall and whatever else is slowing down the computer.
