What is software requirements?

1) On attempting to download (Nortons antivirus Freeware), after the download has completed, there is no files, icons on the desktop to continue with the setup.

2) When trying to do an online virus scan from the "Symantec" website, the system just hangs up.

Suspect some problems with the settings for Java, ActiveX.

Please advise.
