both my read and my read/write CDRom drives have stopped reading CD's. the read only drive stopped reading first, then several months later, the CDr/w stopped. Is there something I can do to make them read again, or do they need service or replacement?

Sometimes when new programs or files are downloaded from the net files for the drivers that are necessary for your computer become corrupted causing certain devices not to function properply.

Do the following which will hopefully solve your problem:

Right Click the my computer icon on your desktop

scroll down and click on properties

in the properties window, click hardware then on device manager

look for the icon for your cd rom and cd rw drives and right click and select properties

In the properties sheet select on reinstall drivers..

this might prompt you specify a location or insert a floopy disk or cd..

Specify the cd roms driver location or insert the floppy disk that came with you cd rom

reinstall the driver , restart your computer and your cd player should work once you have rebooted
