My computers performance has suddenly degraded. My base unit beeps (not like the startup beep, its like a "sad" beep) and when it does, my mouse pointer turns into an hourglass.

Since theses beeps started, windows has started crashing regularly.

What does the beep mean? What is my computer trying to tell me?

When computer beeps continiously or sadly as you stated, it means that either one or several of your computer component by go at any time It could be that one of memory sticks are about to go, or maybe your video is about to go For reference check your motherboard manual to familiarize your self with the configuration of your motherboard, write down how many beeps you are getting and submit a question What the number of beeps signify and if I see I will respond with an answer.
