Why can't I hear anything

i was using a microphone on my system with no problems

one day it wouldnt work and still won't work

i have tried it on friends systems and it seems to work fine

why doesnt it work on mine and what can i do to help rectify this problem

it is a simple plug in one with no headsets

First let's checkout your sound card and make sure it's working properly, on your desktop right click my computer and select properties go to device manager and go to your sound card, if there is no warning signs, right click your sound card and it will tell you if it's working properly, if not, upgrade your driver or you might have a bad card, try a new sound card and hook up your mic.
