I have no volume control on the task bar. If i go to multimedia audio is greyed out

Check your sound card, do you have one Check the way it is placed in the slot and the cables between sound card and CD-ROM Try reinstalling sound card drivers If possible, replace it with the sound card you know is working and see what happens If it is working then original one is bad.
Go to Start, Settings, Sounds and Multimedia Under the Sound tab, check if the Show the sound control on the task bar checkbox is checked off and check the volume of the sound Under the Hardware tab click the sound card you are using and then click Troubleshoot button You will find a list of topics that might help you fix the problem.
