Please Help?

Just recently my computer can't find the web address that I type

When I check the properties of the error page I find that the following has been added as a prefix to the address

res://C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\SHDOCLC.DLL/dnserror.htm#

Please, what has gone wrong?

The problem you are experiencing is what would occur if you performed the following->

1.Click Start, and then click Run.

2 In the Open box, type the following line, and then

click OK:

res://ie4tour.dll/welcome.htm

This above would be the command line to enable the ie4tour at each boot.

Have you checked in your RUN Key's in the registry for the entry?

The registry entries that would enable the IE 4 tour are as follows;

If they are indeed in the registry then delete them.

(Of course export the keys or backup your System.dat and User.dat files first)

The following keys are for the Internet Explorer 4.0 and 4.01:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\

AdvancedOptions\Browse\Welcome

CheckedValue 0x00000001

DefaultValue 0x00000001

The way I would do it would be to search the registry for the entries you show in your question and make sure they apply to IE4 and then delete them from the registry.

Interesting though you will find the identical entries as follows for the IE5 if you were wanting to enable the Tour;

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\

AdvancedOptions\Browse\Showie4

DefaultValue 0x00000001
