I have a Compaq Presario 5868 running win98 and I use viruscanpro 6.0 and Mcafee firewall. I just had a new video card installed (from a vodoo 3 to an nvidia gforce4 mx420). When I turn on my computer I get my initial virus scanning but shortly after the virus scan turns off and the small icon at the bottom right of my screen goes away. If try to run virusscan from the program menu, I get a message that says, ”the v-shield on access system scanner is not currently loaded.” The virus scan window will then close after 10 sec or so goes back to the windows desktop. If I try to run or config the fire wall program, it also will close the window after about ten sec. When I open the Macafee folder on my c drive, that window will close after about ten sec. When I go online to the Mcafee support site, the IE window closes. It seems like everything related to Mcafee will close itself. I took the computer back to the store that installed the card. They indicated that the problem was due to the fact that the virus software was too old. They recommendended that I install a new version of norton antvirus. I did that but I am having the same problem. When I try to install norton, the install wizard closes before I can load. If I go online to the norton support site , my browser window shuts off. Everything else seems to be working OK. I can run programs, games, and surf the web. It seems like the computer knows when I am looking at anything related to anti virus software (Mcafee or Norton) and simply shut the window and sends me back to my desktop. I am totally clueless.
