What is error log?

I receive this message "The instructions at "0x711c741a" referenced memory at "0x00164a50". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate program. The title bar says -

IKernel.exe - Application Error. This message pops up at varius times, even when I'm on the internet. Nothing that is visible to me changes. What would cause this?

When booting the computer, press the Delete key and it should take error out Or check your error log to see what could be causing the problem.
