My wife changed her Windows 98 screen saver password. Now the system does not recognise the
new password! I have downloaded two independant password cracking programs. Both agree that the current password is what we thought it should be!
When we go to the Display properties .. screen saver .. and try and change the password we get
the dreaded 'stop' sign with an error message saying that we are not entering the correct password.
How do I clear the old password so we can re-enter a new one?
This question was answered on February 19, 2003. Much of the information contained herein may have changed since posting.
You must be logged on to the network in order to change your network and screen saver passwords Then go to START|SETTINGS|CONTROL PANEL.
In Control Panel, double click on the PASSWORDS icon.
A new dialogue box will open Click the top button to CHANGE WINDOWS PASSWORD.
Check off the MICROSOFT SREENSAVER box only, then press the OK button.
Another dialogue box will open, asking for your current password and a new one Once you confirm the new password press OK.
If you entered your current password and a new password correctly, you will see a box that shows that your password was changed successfully Press OK
