For a NETGEAR RP114 router, how do I assertain the port a device would like to use to by pass the internal firewall. I wish to video message my kids and grand kids, I can not seem to get past the router. Intel PC cam, messanger software.

I could go out and buy software that would do it all,, but I would like to get it going on my own. I just need information.

Thanks

Robert :-)

Routers come with whats called a private IP address

An IP address is the address a computer uses on the Internet, and can be compared to the street address a person lives on A Private IP address is an IP address that is reserved and may not be "seen" by other computers on the Internet

When having to pass Video Messaging or lets say another Utility such as netmeeting across your local router the best way I would suggest to accomplish this goal is to either 1) To contact your Internet Service Provider and try to obtain a non private ip address for your computer or 2) To plug your internet connection directly to the Ehternet Port on your computer and use the program in this manner

Actually I have used the second suggestion and it seems to be the most easiest and less cheaper than the first suggestion.
