I just finished building my computer. When I try to use my floppy drive it locks my computer up and everything goes blank. Then I started windows in safemode and the floppy drive would
work then. But when I would start windows normally again the same thing
happened (ie everything shuts down including the monitor when I click on the
floppy drive icon in windows explorer).
I formated my hard drive, reloaded windows 98 SE, and the floppy drive
worked right after that, too. Then I installed the drivers from the intel cd
that came with the motherboard. (I only installed the default items from
that disk) After that was installed the same problem came back again-
clicking on the floppy drive icon locked up the computer.
Also, I don't know if it is related, when I try to shut windows down into
ms-dos mode it goes to a blank screen and says: General failure reading
drive c, abort, retry, fail? but I can't do anything from there because the
computer is locked up and I have to manually restart it.
I have tried different floppy drives, cables, and checked to make sure the cables were plugged in correctly. Could this be the motherboard even though the floppy works in safe mode?
Thanks

Maybe you didn't install it right in the motherboard and into your computer You should take it out and install it again If you have any more problems then maybe you need to get a new floppy drive
