Why is it thet when I try to run any program from my cd-rom it says: DEVICE NOT READY or NOT ACCESSIBLE?

Drive D: CDRom drive was working normally on TombRaider 2. Turned off computer and now when I try to run any program from it it says: DEVICE NOT READY . or NOT ACCESSIBLE.

No lights on busy , But now and again can hear drive. When I go into Windows to Scandisk etc Drive D is not on list!

The cd-rom could be bad, the IDE channel it is connected to can be bad, the IDE cable that connects the cd-rom to the motherboard could be bad or you could have IDE controller errors in your Device Manager

Right click on My Computer and select Properties Click Device Manager and see if there are any exclamation points next to and of the IDE controller If not, go out and buy a new cd-rom, keeping all of the old cables in the machine If the system sees the new cd-rom now you know what the problem was If it still doesn't see it try using the cables that come with the new cd-rom If it still doesn't see either cd-rom there is a good chance that your motherboard is bad and needs to be replaced
