Attached e-mail

Sometimes, when I receive a picture in an e-mail, all I receive is a small box, in a box, with a red "X" in the center of the boxes. I am not able to open this to see the picture. The picture has been in both "JPG", and "GIF". The pictures are sent by a friend in Italy, I don't know if that is part of the problem. HELP ME!

A red X usually appears on a web page when a server for that image is down or when the image has been improperly uploaded on a web page Since you received the e-mail, the pictures weren't properly attached to the e-mail
