Why doesn't my operating system start up?

i built my computer my self

i followed all of the directions on the motherboard and all other instuctions and when i was done i pressed the power button and all the fans were working, the lights on the keyboard came on for 2 or 3 seconds then it shuts itself off.

i dont know whats wrong!!

it does not have an operating system yet

would the cpu fan have something to do w/ it or could it be a comflict between my 2100 cpu and 2700 ddr ram

help....

The reason why your computer does not start is because you do not have an operating system installed All the hardware you have if properly installed should load once your computer startS it POST (Power On Self Test ) Your operating system needs to be installed in order for your computer and its components to work properly.
