What is install the Anti Virus Protection only?

It is time for me to renew my Norton System Works and I was wondering if I need it or could just get by with Norton Anti Virus protection? On your radio shoe a while back I heard you say that a lot of the wonky actions that occur with windows users comes from the System Works software and you suggested that the user uninstall the system works and just reinstall the anti virus protection. I do get some wierd error messages and freeze ups from time to time. Your recommendations?
