Can't connect thru dial-up

I am having a problem with AOL. Everytime I try to log on to AOL 6.0, 7.0, 8.0. Everytime I try to log on the connection stops at step 5(TALKING TO NETWORK ) anda redials 3 times finally letting me on, but my buddy list and channels won't show up and I can't connect to any websites. But on 6.0 I can get on websites and the buddy list and channels show up. 6.0 does have the same connection problem as 7.0 and 8.0. Now the question is, is it just AOL or is it something else? The problem has been persisting for about 3 days.

Open the modem icon in control panel and use the diagnostic tabs to test the modem, check to see if you have a noisy phone line, check the modem, re-install it or place it in another slot on your board or replace with another, and check your drivers
