WHy do I get an error message that say Could not locate any display adapters properly configured for the selected render type?

I have a video game NASCARracing2002 that will not play i get two popup windows they are as follows,Could not locate any display adapters properly configured for the selectedrenderertype. 2. cannot obtain alist of available display modes from the selected renderer and display adapters. I also do not have a game controller set up have just amouse and keyboard.

Go back and make another selection until you find a renderer that works with your machine The default is 800 X 600 X 16 You can also choose from 640 X 480 X 16 or 1024 X 768 X 16
