Something that has not been mentioned is the possibility of everything getting too hot You mention that this problem seems to happen when playing Counter-strike and just sitting doing nothing Does it happen after a while of your system being on? If so, temperature maybe the culprit Certainly in the case of your game, increased load on your graphics card is being created Likewise with Media Player, if you are using the Visualisation feature Your game will use 3d graphics, and increase the resources on hard-disk, RAM, CPU, etc.

If you feel confident, take the cover off your pc just after lock-up and see how hot your graphics card is (if your system is new be careful as you may invalid a warranty) It will be hot, but shouldn't be hot enough to fry an egg :-)

You can also verify that cooling fans are rotating, on the CPU itself and on the graphics card Also check other fans that you may have in your system (power supply, rear of casing etc.) Try moving your PC into some open space so that air can circulate properly.

To check temperatures, you can try going into your BIOS settings at startup as some boards have the ability to report on temperature, fan speed etc
