I tried to install more ram for my machine. (256mb to 512) I got error beeps when i started up my computer so i tried different arrangements of the ram in the slots. Still didnt work after all possible placements. So I took the new ram out . So now only the original ram is back in place how it was as if i had never touched anything. I restarted the compuer again; it started up but the monitor is blank, nothing comes up on the screen. The monitor works--the orange light is on and the computer knows its there but nothing will show up. whats wrong, how do i fix it?

thanks--drew

You might have accidentally dislodged the cpu or some wires while replacing RAM Check if everything is in place and plugged the right way in If the problem persists there may be a serious problem (or not) Troubleshooting steps:

1) Check the wires, the system buses, video card is tightly in place and screwed in

2)Once the computer turns on and the monitor is still not displaying anything, listen for the beeps that come from the internal speaker If you hear none then you might have a problem with your power supply or the CPU or the motherboard:

1.See if the fan is working in the back of your computer box

-if not then check the power cable

-replace power supply

2.Check if the fan is spinning on your CPU

-check the fan's power cable and if it's plugged in properly

3.Check if the CPU is properly seated

4.Optionally check if you motherboard has a test light and if it's lighting up

3)Upon turning on the computer listen for the beeps, refer to this web page for the code meaning: http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm
