This problem surfaced within the last two weeks.

When scrolling an e-mail window in Outlook Express -- either by using the mouse or the up/down arrows -- the monitor goes black and the machine freezes. I have to do a hard boot to exit.

AsI have tried to duplicate this problem in other programs and failed, apparently this problem exists only in Outlook Express.

I was running Outlook Express V5.0. I tried downloading V6.0 to se if that would correct the problem.

It didn't.

It's a real mystery to me.

You might be experiencing some kind of virus, you should run an anti-virus software and see if that resolves your problem, also did you notice ant type of error messages when you open Outlook Express or when you turn on your unit, that might be an indication of the type of virus you are having
