When booting up the computer, windows comes up, then password. Then the desktop comes up with nothing on it and an error message appears Explorer caused an invalid page fault in module Explorer.exe. When I do control: alt: delete it shows that nothing is running.

Ok chances are you probably installed software or a virus that changed the system settings of explorer Explorer is require in order for you to start windows

You can try to fix this by pressing F8 before windows starts and login in "Safe Mode"

Once in safemode you can try to repair explorer by using the add/remove prgrams tool in control panel

Another fix would be this

press f8 at startup to get the windows menu

pick command prompt only

type in scanreg /restore

You will be given a list of dates

pick a date from a week ago

it will ask you to restart so click yes

If none of these solutions work you will need to reinstall your operating system

Login safe mode and backup all your data first.
