I have a Gateway E-5400 with two PIII 733mHz CPU's. My system currently has two 128 mb of PC800 Rimm ECC memory. I tried to add two 512 mb ECC cards to the two vacant slots, but the system would not boot with it installed (with or without the 128 modules). I even tried ordering modules directly from Gateway, but their's would not work either. One of the sales reps at Fry's electronics said that early RIMM machines were very fickle about the memory they would work with, but could not tell me what I needed. Have you heard of this? Do you know what modules will work in this machine? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I went to gateway.com and they state your computer's motherboard supports RDRAM (Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory) on RIMM slots Rambus In LIne Memory Modules.

It also states if you install 128 mb in slot 1 you have to install the same in slot 3, also in you install 512 on slot 2 you have to install the same in slot 4....Make sure these configurations are correct and your system should boot.
