How to troubleshoot error and failure messages?

i have been receiving failure notices when trying to install a windows automatic update that is considered to be critical. i am notified automatically and when i try to do the install i receive the faluire msg. i receive a new msg to insyall and the process is repeated all over again. this has ocurred several times. the fix has to do with error msgs. on network after doing a re-install of windows.

any ideas how to get it to install correctly? i have everything up to date on the system.
