How do I troubleshoot problems with Standby and Shutting down my computer in Windows 2000?

When I try to shut down your Windows 2000 computer, the computer may stop responding (hang), possibly on a black screen. Also, my computer may hang or may not power off when the shutdown procedure reaches the "It is now safe to turn off your computer" screen.

I don't get no Standby option when I try to shut down my computer.

My computer hangs or receive a "stop 0x9F" error message when my computer is in Standby mode.
