i just bought a new computer and i cant get it to read the cd-rom as d:\ and the hard drive as c:\ and i have no OS installed at the moment i was told that the bios may be corrupt by a friend but i dont think that is the case.

I really doubt that the bios is corrupt Sounds like what you want to do is install an OS Hard drives are assigned the first letter available For example, if you have 3 hard drives and one cdrom them your hard drives letters will be as follows: C, D, and E then the CDROM drive will get the next available drive letter which will be F

Drive letters A and B are reserved for Floppy drives.

So if you only have 1 hard drive and one CDROM drive then you could make them into drive C and D respectively.

BUT

In order for you to see these drive letters as I explained above.. First you need to install an Operating System.

I hope this helps.
