Error messgae microsoft security update?

I have a block that pops up saying I have a microsoft security update.

I click on it and I get:

Winddows update is looking for available updates 0% complete

It stays on 0% complete and doesn't change.

In the past it would change to 33% complete, 66% complete, then 100% complete.

What's wrong?
