How do i avoid low memory warnings?

Can't delete email messages in Outlook Express, and Deleted Items "could not be displayed" (low memory or disk space". PLENTY of disk space; memory? Have deleted all tmp, etc. and ran defrag all night!

When using memory intensive software make sure no other or a minimal programs are running in the " back ground" quick way to make sure ctrl alt del shut down all processes that are not directly in use or are not needed.
