Can I delete the initial Windows XP installation from the windows folder to free up space on the hard drive?

Due to a corrupt registry I performed a shadow installation of Windows XP into another folder on the same hard drive. Can I delete the initial Windows XP installation from the windows folder to free up space on the hard drive?
