It was working fine the other day. What could have happened?

I have a PC with Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6.0. It recieves an IP from the DHCP and I can ping the gateway, and other web sites. When I open Internet Explorer it gives me a DNS error saying the page cannot be displayed for any web site I try to go to. It was working fine the other day. What could have happened?

Let me add that I'm using DSL and have connected it to two different networks and still get the same problem. I also have tried typing in IP's instead of the website names in IE and have also tried to connecting to ftp sites with the same results. If I try e-mail in Outlook Express it asks me to make a connection even though I have it set to Never Dial a connection. I downloaded the setup file for IE 6.0 on another PC and copied it to the PC to reinstall IE but when the setup begins it tells me it can't connect to the internet to get the rest of the files to do the install. Please help
