What is wrong with my hard drive?

The last several times that I have ran the "system maintainence" tool I have gotten error messages. One read 'lost file fragments found, would you like to convert fragments into files' and right after it asked, 'error found in boot sector would you like to repair?' I clicked yes to both.

This last time I got a message saying:"This drive area contains important information that is damaged or invalid. This can cause Windows to report the drives free space incorrectly or slowly. Scandisk repairs the boot area by recording the correct values in this area" I clicked OK to repair.

What would be the reason for these errors? Someone suggested that the HD was failing. Is this what the symptoms would be? Please advise.

Thank You

PJ Daly

When you get some of these erors messages suspect a corrupted file system corrupted boot sector, or fading track and sector marking on the drive Which i guess eventually will lead to a failing hard drive.r
