Can not open the draws to put a CD in nor will the floppy disk open either. Prior to that there was a red cross on the icon adaptec direct cdwizard. When you point to the icon, it reads no supported CD-R/CD-RW Drive. When there is a red cross, I know the draws on the control tower will not open, In the past I have used GO BACK and fixed the problem.

GO BACK does not go far back enough now to fix the problem. I did uninstall the adaptec direct cd wizard and the icon is gone , BUT the draws on the tower to put in CD's or floppy disks STILL DOES NOT OPEN. I have scanned my c -hard drive and everything seems fine. I want to be able to open the draws so I can put in CD for extra clip art for example.

To manually open the CD tray, take a paper clip and straighten it out (no joking) insert it in the tiny hole near the eject button, about 1 inch in you should feel a small plate or button (resistance) push it and your CD trat should open a little As for the drive not working, making sure it is connected (power, and data cables) If that's not the problem then the drive may have to be replaced Hope this helps.
