How to get rid of annoying pop ups.

When I am on aol I occassionally receive messages that appear to be coming through the instant message function. Most are ads to block this type of access, but some are selling other things. I have blocked everything that I could find on aol, but to no avail. Is there something else that I can do.

I know for one setting up a fire wall has helped me alot Using your virus software, set up a firewall and customize to your liking It should notify you when pops are trying to get at your computer.
