What to do with internet explorer

All of a sudden, when I am on the Internet using Internet Explorer and click on a link, my whole computer shuts down and reboots. I have not added any new software right before this starting happening. I have the latest IE 6 with the special patch. I download all of the Microsoft Updates as they appear.

I tried redownloading IE, but I get a message that the version that I have is newer than the one that I am trying to download, so it cancels itself out.

Scan the explorer for viruses some are able to make your computer shutdown if you do or dont find nothing uninstall your internet explorer and reinstall it.
