Why did my system crash during MS PowerPoint?

my system crashed during MS PowerPoint. as it tries to reboot, it says shortly after

IDE-detection:

master primary hard disk fail. the orange-led from the harddrive wich indicates activity is burning permanently. what could cause the problem and how can i safe my data, if there is any left?

It seems to me that your hard drive just crashed, do you hear a grinding noise when the orange light is on? if you do then thats what probably happend, it crashed If that is the case than there is nothing you can do about saving any data on the hard drive, unfortunately your data is lossed Sorry I hope I helped
