Upgraded from Windows 98 to XP Professional. XP identified sound card however claims that there are no drivers installed and recommended using manufacturer's disc. Attempted to install by way of original disc supplied by Dell. Disc automatically initiated installation for OEM SM Live! Value. Upon restarting the system went through a windows 98 style diagnostic testing (bios, ram, keyboard, etc) after which XP attempted to start but failed and I'm left with a blank screen and nothiong more than an operable mouse cursor. I cannot access anything to correct anything. It seems as though this disc loaded the dell logo along with a piece of windows 98. Ultimately, I would like to circumvent the failing startup process, "restore" XP, and successfully update the drivers for soundblaster to have sound as I did before upgrading to XP. Creative recommendation: contact Dell. The system was purchased in '99 and is out of warranty. HELP!

Well it sounds like to me that your hard drive may have crashed you should reinstall xp and then try to install drivers again
