i want my 2 computers (one runs win 98 sec ed the other runs xp) to share the same cable modem. I frist set them up to run net boie. the 98 computer would hook up to the network only for awhile then drop. I could ping the xp computer but could not use the internet untill i rebooted the 98 computer. The xp computer runs fine. I thought if i bought a router this would fix my problum. Got a router made them DHCP same thing. the xp computer works fine but the 98 computer keeps droping the internet. after about 5 mintues it wont connect and i have to reboot for it to connect. Now this MB has a nic card built in so i installed a new one, same thing happens. I looked at the ip address the router was assigning to the 98 computer and made it a stadic number with gateway and sub mask but that still did not work. What am i missing? I have gone over and over this problum.

I hope you guys can help me.

Thanks

Dave

Have you ever just considered upgrading the win 98 computer to xp maybe that will make the network work alot better to the simple fact that you'll be running the same software Another thing in a situation were you are running a network with two differet os then make sure you make the xp computer or the hight os system the main computer Also go to microsoft.com and get all the latest upgrades for your 98 computer there might be your solution if you do not wanrt to try the up grade because at this point i think it is omthing with your software and not the actual hard ware in your network.
