My cdrom drive will not open, but still makes noises like it is about to. What is wrong with my computer and how do I fix it?

A problem like this is not caused by your computer but by your cd drive If it sounds like it is opening but it doesn;t it could be that the rubber band inside that is used to open the cd drive might have busted or somthing else inside the cd drive has busted if you have a cd inside there by anychance you can definatly get your cd drive open with the use of a paper clip just insert the paper clip inside this little hole that is next to the cd slot on your cd drive insert the clip all the way in and then just manually yank open the slot once you get it open inspect it to see if anything looks weird or unsual or just to see if anything inside is jamming it If you find nothing and the drive is still not working contact the manufacturer of the cd drive and let them know your problem if the drive came with your computer when you purchased it then call your computers manufacturer.
