The computer was locked-up. I turned it off and then turned it back on. The power light came on and the CD light showed activity, but the CPU light blinked, but did not stay on. There was no sound or indication of CPU activity. What could be the cause of the inactivity? Also, there is a large amount of dust in the room.

Well dust could have a reason for it depending on the age of your pc Unless you smelled something burn another thing it could be that your processor short circuited Lets not jump into that conclusion yet unless you did smell something burn Have you checked the wiring to your monitor as well as your video card You can also try opening up your pc and just take a peek to see if anything looks unusual but don't touch nothing unless you have had prior training on the do's and don;ts of opening up a pc Worse comes to worse call the manufacturer of your computer perhaps they might have a better or the best solution to handle this type of mauntfunction situation.
