Why won't my microphone work with XP pro?

I just installed XP pro and my microphone will not work. All my settings are

correct it is not muted, in volume control it is not muted, in recording

control microphone is selected and microphone booster is enabled. I did notice that

the balance control bars above the volume is not highlighted and also the

advanced controls are not highlighted. The microphone works on another

computer with ME and worked on this one before I installed XP. It is plugged

into right place, and has the appropriate driver, but it doesn't seem to

recognize the mic being there. Does anyone know what I can try next?

I know you said you have the appropriate driver, but it still sounds to me like you have the wrong driver Do you still have the CD for the sound card driver, try reinstalling it or try the sound cards website and download a recent driver that works with XP pro.
