A few days ago my sound completely stopped working. I've checked all my connections, and anything that might mute the speakers. I also tried uninstalling the sound drivers, I even reinstalled the OS, but nothing seems to be working. If I touch the end of my speaker cord with my finger, it makes a hissing sound that leads me to believe the speakers work fine. I tried installing a sound card, but when I did the video card stopped responding. What do I do?

Have you checked for any conflicts such as IRQ or memory conflicts You can do this from device manager by selecting the computer icon and clicking on properties Sometimes the computer thinks it knows more than it does and says everything is ok, when it is not When checking for IRQ conflicts check to see if the sound card is sharing same IRQ with another device Some devices will share IRQ and some will not, if you find that sound card is sharing with another device go into your BIOS In the setting for IRQ for each slot and change from auto to an IRQ that you know is available.
