How can I get into my computer windows?

After my computer froze when in screen saver mode and now when I turn it back on I get as far as the password box - put in the password - press enter - the box goes away but the screen remains blank although I can use my mouse pointer.

How can I get into my computer windows?

Reboot your computer, in the reboot press f8 key located on top of keyboard, and on the options highlight safe mode and press enter.
