When I try to connect to the internet from home, my computer detects no dial tone. I can go through control panel, printers and other hardware, phone and modem options, modems tab says Agere Systems PCI Soft Modem, attached to COM 2, then properties (general tab) says this device is working properly and the device is enabled...my old Windows '95 computer connects to the internet...Is there something else I can try before packing this thing up for an exchange?

Please Advise,

Kimberly

Conect a phone to the line to make sure you have a dial tone, if that does not work try switching wires.

Is your modem ISA or PCI? What is the modem's make and model number? If the modem is an ISA modem, set it to com2, irq3 You may have to go into the bios and disable com2 Experiment a bit.
