Why is my computer screen does not come on?

my computer turns on but the screen does not come on, and it does not turn off when I press the start button to turn off.

Check to see if the cable to the monitor is working properly or if working at all.

Besides checking the cable, try to get another moniter and plug it in to you pc If it works it can be the moniter, If the same problems persist then it can also be a bad video card.
