my old laptop (manufactured in 1998) dosen't bootup. when i turn on the computer, it displays the configuration details such as RAM size then prompting me to press either F1 for resum and F2 to reset. when i press F1 or F2, the screen shows the configuration screen on dos mode. I tried to reinstall the operating system (the installed OS is Windows 98 and I want to reinstall Windowme this time as I don't have the 98), the laptop cannot reconize the floppy or CD ROM drive and saids the checksum is invailed then again prompting the F1 and F2 keys. Is there anyway I can use this computer???

The only possible solution that you can try doing is deleting the hard drive Get a windows 98 start up disk and insert it into the laptop basicaly your goal would be is get to the dos promt once you get to the dos promt type down fdisk From that point follow the direction until you get to a list and then what you want to do is delete the partision once you done that recreate anotere partision and then just reinstl your win 98 cd if that don work then your computer is just dommed.
