Scan disk and Defrag not working?

I have tried using scan disk and defragging my computer but even though I have closed down all running programs it still wont work. What can I do to fix it?

Sometimes scan disk and defrag seems like it's not working but you computer i's taking its time trying to go through all the files in your computer that it has to scan and defrag

Sometimes everything is too big for it to just scan and defrag at once so it takes it time doing it so just be patient.
