I've tried running scandisc but I get an error about "Not enough Memory".

I have closed all programs not necessary from my "Start" menu and still get the error.

Any ideas on what's wrong or what I should do?

Do you have a full hard drive? On your hard drive you have what is called a swap file, this is hard drive space that acts like RAM If you hard drve is too full, this file will not function proplery, try deleting some old files and programs that you do not use anymore and see what happens, this should do the trick.
