What can I do about fixing my hard drive without reformating it?

I am gett ing error message on start-up, a problem has been detected with your hard drive, is there a fix for this other then reformating, I don't want to have to do that.

Try running Skandisk, this command recognizes bad sectors on the hard drive, it either fixes them or doesn't allow you to use those bad sectors If that doesn't work you will then probably have to either reformat it or install a new one.
