I installed more memory but it has not increased my speed that I noticed--

I heard that there is something I should do to allow windows to recognize the added memory

First of all, is it the right kind of memory, you have to make sure you install the proper kind of memory Look at the memory your PC came with, there should be a sticker on it, it would say something like PC 100 or SD 133 You must make sure you buy the same kind or you will have trouble If it is the right kind, try switching then around in the case, This sometimes does the trick.
