I have an Emachines 466id computer, With 256 mb of ram and 8 gig hard drive and 466mh celeron processor, running windows Me operating system. I have been on Dial up for a long time and my computer seemed to slow down and then completely freeze up. I recently upgraded to Cable modem thinking that might be the problem but it is seeming to get worse. Can you suggest anything that I should check or would I be better off just buying a new computer or building my own. I have no viruses and I use Mcaffee virus scan 7.0.
Thanks,
Chris

It seems to me the problem is your hard drve Your hard drive is 8GB and that is not that big these days Check how much hard drive space you have left if it is not that much you might have to delete some things if not you may have to purchase a new hard drive The reason the hard drive might be the problem is there is a file called a swap file or virtual memory This files acts as RAM and helps your PC work faster, if your hard drive is too full, your swap file will be affected hurting your PC speed and performance.
